Even though people flock to Florida for its mild winter weather, there are still a few things you can keep in mind when winterizing your Florida home for cooler days. Here are our top 4 tips for making sure your home is ready for the season!
1. Program Your Thermostat
Our first tip for winterizing a Florida home is one that is essential year-round, but the changing of the seasons is a great time to make adjustments! Make sure that your thermostat is programmed correctly for when you’ll be using it most. For example, in winter you can set the thermostat for the temperatures that make you comfortable when you’re awake. And you can keep your home a bit cooler when you’re away or asleep. By setting the programming correctly you can save money and energy this season! In fact, one of our Neal Smart Home features is a Smart Thermostat that allows for easy temperature control.
2. Reverse Your Ceiling Fans
During Florida’s hotter summer months, you’ll get a lot of use out of your ceiling fan! But that doesn’t mean you need to leave them idle during the winter. By changing the direction in which the blades spin, ceiling fans can push warm air that has risen to the ceiling back down to the floor. This helps keep your home warmer in winter months.
3. Inspect Your Roof
Because rain is still a possibility during the winter months, now is a great time to check your roof! When winterizing your Florida home, make sure downspouts and gutters are free of debris and that they’re functioning properly.
4. Clean Your Air Filters
Our last tip is a simple one: keep your HVAC air filters clean! When air filters get dusty and dirty your HVAC system has to work harder to heat or cool your home. Not to mention, replacing your air filter makes sure that the air in your home stays cleaner.

Are you ready to add some Autumn flair to your home? We’ve rounded up our top four fall interior design trends to help you add the spirit of a new season!
1. Geometric Patterns
Bold, geometric patterns are still having a big moment! For example, a crisp black and white rug adds a pop of energy and design to your indoor or outdoor living areas. Or try adding some vibrant throw pillows to a chair or couch to incorporate this trend more easily. And the good news about Fall interior design trends like these is that they’re going to stick around for a while.
2. Rich Hues
When the days are getting cooler, it’s a great time to add some warmth to your home using rich colors. By adding hues like burnt orange, sandy brown and deep blues, you can bring the vibrant seasonal colors of the outdoors inside.
3. Cozy Textures
One of our favorite Fall interior design trends is adding cozy textures throughout the home. You can do this by draping a plush blanket over a couch or bedspread, adding a soft pillow to chairs and couches or hanging a chunky knit wall hanging just about anywhere.
4. Houseplants
This Fall, try bringing some of the outdoors in! The final of our Fall interior design trends is making the inside of your home feel as lush and vibrant as the outside. By adding succulents and hearty indoor plants, you can add seasonal cheer and natural beauty.

It’s that time of year again! Summer’s in our rearview mirror and we’re looking ahead to a new season of outdoor living during the best time of year in Southwest Florida!
It’s a subtle change here as the days become shorter and the evening breeze becomes more welcoming and we begin to dine al fresco again.
In order to make the most of Fall I also like to make subtle changes in my decor to remind me of our family traditions, and to enjoy the new season to the full. I’ll change the wreath on my front door and add a few floral accents inside my home to reflect the season. But I especially pay close attention to our outdoor spaces that will start to get more use to be sure they are clean, comfortable and a welcoming refuge at the end of the day.
If you’re getting ready to move down to Florida, your outdoor living may be an area that we can help you with immediately! As natives to the area we know what works and what doesn’t. What’s practical and can survive the constant rays of the sun and endure the humidity and still be a beautiful carefree complement to your home decor.
And though the traditional rich colors of fall may seem a little out of place here let me recommend some rich velvety jewel tones that reflect the gorgeous sunset you’re poised to enjoy. Or the varied breathtaking hues of the ocean like turquoise which is my current obsession.
With a simple conversation with one of our stylists we can begin to curate an outdoor living space that you’ll be thrilled to enjoy and share with others. Of course, when we’re planning your outdoor space we’ll take into consideration:
● Scale and space so that your outdoor living area looks inviting and not like it’s missing ‘something’.
● Care and maintenance. We want your investment to last, so choosing the right mix of function and performance fabrics will be a must and will save you time and money by making the right choice the first time.
● A cohesive look that flows seamlessly from your home to your outdoor space.
This is our favorite time of year and we’d love to welcome you to Florida and your new home with a Seasonal Design that will serve you for years to come.
